twohumble wrote:The fact is, he interprets the 'literal' nature of Gen 1 differently than you, so you attack his position, and him by falsly accusing him of trying to say Gen 1 is not true. Again, a huge distortion of the facts and you should be ashamed at your ad hominem attack on this man.
You quoted Paul and now I am going to quote Peter:
2 Peter 1:20-21
20 But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one's own interpretation, 21 for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God. NAS
Now, before you tell me that Genesis 1 is not a
prophecy, define prophecy.
Description of Ad Hominem
Translated from Latin to English, "Ad Hominem" means "against the man" or "against the person."
An Ad Hominem is a general category of fallacies in which a claim or argument is rejected on the basis of some irrelevant fact about the author of or the person presenting the claim or argument. Typically, this fallacy involves two steps. First, an attack against the character of person making the claim, her circumstances, or her actions is made (or the character, circumstances, or actions of the person reporting the claim). Second, this attack is taken to be evidence against the claim or argument the person in question is making (or presenting). This type of "argument" has the following form:
1. Person A makes claim X.
2. Person B makes an attack on person A.
3. Therefore A's claim is false.
The reason why an Ad Hominem (of any kind) is a fallacy is that the character, circumstances, or actions of a person do not (in most cases) have a bearing on the truth or falsity of the claim being made (or the quality of the argument being made).
Example of Ad Hominem
1. Bill: "I believe that abortion is morally wrong."
Dave: "Of course you would say that, you're a priest."
Bill: "What about the arguments I gave to support my position?"
Dave: "Those don't count. Like I said, you're a priest, so you have to say that abortion is wrong. Further, you are just a lackey to the Pope, so I can't believe what you say."

When I am debating Catholics they always pull ad hominem, strawman, and other terms from logic out of their hats in an attempt to prove me wrong in my understanding of Scripture and their “holy traditions”.
I posted I find Ross’ theology “questionable”. And so far all you have done is attack my theology, which is based on a
literal understanding of God’s word. Ross and other Christian scientists have placed their
knowledge and intellect above God’s truth. Jesus said: “Sanctify them in truth your word is truth” John 17:17.
In Genesis 1 we are told, “there was evening and morning” day 1, 2, 3 etc. As I posted we don’t use “evening and morning” to indicate an era or an indeterminate length of time. The only
day that lacks this definitive phrase is the 7th day. However, this is not the whole issue. You have neither responded to what I posted regarding “death”, nor even attempted to respond to tuppence.
