Science, Creation & EvolutionNoahs Flood is it real, is it global? No, not necessarily in the manner you describe. A theory may generate a hypothesis that will (a) reinforce the theory; (b) negate the theory or (c) lead to an equivocal result. If the hypothesis leads to a strong negation of the theory, then work will commence on formulating a new theory that can explain everything the old theory did and go one better. The hypothesis that leads to a strong negation of an existing theory may also later be shown to be wrong. Hypotheses may also be formulated to test certain aspects of the larger theory with the intent of filling in gaps within a theory. These hypotheses may also be (a), (b) or (c) above. -E |
