Well you're one of the few Christians that does. Just read any article Jerry Falwell as written on this subject and he doesn't get it.
However, you own bigotry and prejudice will not allow you to accept that sexuality is not cut in stone or coded in our DNA.
Then where do you suggest the desire comes from? If it's not genetic and it's not a choice, where? Someone didn't sprinkle magical 'gay dust' on me as a child.
I have read the penguin site before. I have also read sites on sheep, moutain goats, swans, and etc. where the researchers opined that hormonal abnormalities were the issue not sexual preference or orientation. So like you stated earlier we can appeal to studies that contradict what the others post. The fact remains that animals cannot choose to act upon their sexual urges; humans can and do.
Which makes it all the more beautiful in my opinion that people like myself and others who have weathered this storm in life despite the hateful rhetoric was able to stay the course and not fold to societies pressures.
The Bible contains a lot of good guidance for humans can live in harmony. And as much as you dislike Biblical morality our legal code is based on Biblical morality.
I'm not going to de-rail this thread but the bible also contains a lot of bizarre stuff as well. For example, for no other reason than he could, 'God' instructed Abraham to murder his own child. I wouldn't consider that to be moral.
Some cultures (not the world) used to believe women were of less value than men and some cultures still do. Those sections of the world conquered by whites have treated Blacks and other indigineous people with contempt. However, you really need to study a little more history since Black on Black, Asian on Asian, Arab on Arab violence fills the history books.
That is a red herring to the point I made and doesn't justify its rightness.
I guess society is as good a scapegoat as any other scapegoat to blame for the instability of gay relationships. After all why accept personal responsibility for relational problems when you can blame "society"?
It's not a 'scapegoat' it's a legitimate explanation. It isn't a get out of jail free card either. Friends of mine who are also gay who don't take relationships seriously or act 'gay foolishly' don't escape my judgment either. Trust me, they get an ear full.
Straights are the victims of discrimination at work, housing, and are the targets of violence. What you cannot show is that Christians are the only source of discrimination and/or the violence aimed at gays.
Did I say that Christians are always responsible? But you'd have to agree that many, many times the violence that has occurred has been justified by the perpetrator for Jesus.
But why bother about truth when you have an organization like Christianity to blame? Oh and BTW discrimination based on sexual orientation is against the law so what are you complaining about? Hire an attorney.
Then mussel people like Jerry Falwell and I'll stop complaining.
