ArchivedNIV Version changes day star to morning star!I agree with you, which is why I do not use the KJV. My Bible of choice is the NAS. However, if you want to get down to basics no English translation is the inerrant word of God, which was given to us in Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek. So if you want to learn these languages and then study the 26000 manuscripts and partial manuscripts of the Scriptures that are available you have the foundation to critique modern translations. The KJV has used societal prejudice to translate this word, which is more properly translated “male temple prostitute”. This is how the NAS translates this verse: Deuteronomy 23:17 17 "None of the daughters of Israel shall be a cult prostitute, nor shall any of the sons of Israel be a cult prostitute. NAS And from the NIV and other translations: 17 No Israelite man or woman is to become a shrine prostitute. (from New International Version) 17 "There shall be no cult prostitute of the daughters of Israel, neither shall there be a cult prostitute of the sons of Israel. RSV 17 There shall be no prostitute amongst the daughters of Israel, nor any Sodomite amongst the sons of Israel. Darby No daughter of Israel is to become a sacred prostitute; and no son of Israel is to become a sacred prostitute. MSG Both the KJV and Darby have used prejudice and bias in there translation and have not represented God’s truth accurately. Who is messing around with God’s word? Based on textual scholarship the KJV is not based on the most accurate manuscripts available to us today so your accusation that the NIV messing around with God’s word is false unless you include the KJV and any other translation that does not give us God's true meaning. |
