ArchivedSin: Are we reconciled or are we not?Neither. Some early Christians died at the hands of the Romans because they taught that Jesus was the king of the Jews. To say that anyone other than Ceasar was king was punishable by death. Others died at the hands of Jews because they taught that Jesus was God. The Jews believed this was blasphemy - punishable by death. The early Christians didn't go around claiming they had no sin, and I have yet to see you provide a verse that says they did. The Bible wasn't even completed until the later years of the 1st century. And it wasn't recognized as such officially until the Council of Nicea in the 4th (I think) century. So the answer to this question is.... nobody, not the church. Even by the 4th century, Catholicism was growing so much so that by the time the Bible got around to all the churches, only the clergy could have access to it. The early (i.e. 1st century) church didn't do this. The 4th century one did. And "clergy" is not synonymous with "people". The word you want is "laity". Clergy are the bishops, pastors, etc. I hate to nitpick at stuff like this, but in all honesty, it shows a lack of knowledge/research on your part into the things that you are debating about. And if you can be shown to be faulty in these things, it stands to reason that you can be wrong about the rest of what you're saying. See, this is the thing I don't get. You are saying that lying is a weakness, not a sin. But God calls lying a sin. So why are you trying to redefine the word? And if you admit that you have a weakness, how do you think God sees that? A weakness (even if you insist on calling it that) is something that keeps you from measuring up to God. And God has said that anything that causes you to fall short of His glory is sin. Why do you deny this? |
