Christian/Muslim ThreadsWhat did Jesus look like?
Because these are not forms of idolatry... otherwise the apostles would of been guilty of idolatry for praising Jesus as God. If some artist drew a picture of Jesus in his days, would that make the artist an idolator? if so, then we should ban television and camera's all together. See i have no problem with Methodists and other protestants who refuse to uphold crosses or statues in remembrance to christ... neither do i have problems with catholics who do. It's not something wich is forbidden or commanded by a Christ. And again, if you deny a despiction of Jesus, then you deny he excisted in the first place.
I'm sorry for taking this question, but Aineo's opinion will only represants his, and not the whole body of christians.
I disagree with your proffesor, since African christians, despict Jesus as black in their artwork, Mexicans despict him as brown, and in India he is red. It's artwork and it doesn't provoce racism... any christian knowning Jesus teachings wouldn't indulge in racism to begin with. The only thing that provoce's racism is ignorace, kinda of like the KKK hating jews, but don't wanna be reminded that Jesus was a jew himself. Just like all horrible actions in christianity it could only come if you believe in your own hatred more then in jesus. What does thomas jefferson or america has to do with christianity? christianity is a global religion you know, you might as well be talking about the prejuices of the person who wrote the amendments for Kuala Lumpur one persons cannot justify or condemn an entire religion merely because he was given the attention and power to make his opinions known. i believe their is no harm in that, catholics are not condemned to hell because they have a cross hanging above their door. And have you ever considered the Thematic Apperception Test applied to pictures? according to the quran if a picture is in your house, then angels wont visit you... but what if their was a stain on your table in wich some angels would see it as an image of christ, and some would see it as a image of a turtle?... wouldn't then you be left angelless and condemned to hell merely because pictures can't be defined in a objective manner. as Aineo brought forward, their was allready a catholic pope, and their are alot of african and latin bishops. Desmond Tutu is one of the most famous of these african cardinals. And if i'm not mistaken the two prominent church fathers Tertullianus and Augustine of Hippo both were two africans.
Nation of Islam in the hayday of Malcolm X (contemporary of Martin Luther King, who thought muslim violence was the solution instead of Martin Luther King's christian peace) was very known to attract a black public. But that had merely to do with the american situation at that time, and wasn't found in any other countries. This hype of islam converts has started to die along with the nation of islam. Yet again, christianity in africa and latin america are flourishing and have numerous of black bishops and leaders. Who are not known to the west (and why should they?). That cheap propaganda movie?? no it's not interesting, muhammed is nowhere shown in the movie, neither are his wives... it's all political correct 'islam' movie. Who doesn't shoot half of what is written in the quran. If i had the chance to direct a movie, i'd shoot it as the bloody war movie it should be, including the rapes, beheadings, etc... glorification of fascism must end. 'The Message' is a insult to all the victims of Muhammed. |
