Beads, if you have taken the time to read the whole thread faithman brought up works, not me. I do not believe in a works based salvation; this goes counter to Biblical truth.
The Scriptures I have quoted refer to false teachers who deceive believers who then go into apostasy. The Epicoplains who approved the ordination of a gay bishop are a prime modern example of false teachers and what happens when they prevail.
Let's look at what Jesus said:
John 10:27-28
27 "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; 28 and I give eternal life to them, and they shall never perish; and no one shall snatch them out of My hand. NAS
No external force can remove a believer from the hand of Christ; however this does not say that a believer cannot climb out of Christ's hand. When people say "the Devil made me do it" they are using an external force for a conscious decision. The Devil cannot make any person do anything they do not want to do unless they are possessed by the Devil.
.... to gain salvation, yes. But much more is required in our daily living as a Christian. This is the meaning of "work out your salvation." However, not carrying out these daily requirements does not void the salvation that the Father has freely given.
You are actually making my point. James plainly states that if any person professes a faith that is not demonstrated by works then said professed faith is dead or non-existent. When a Christian lives a fruitful life and then for whatever reason ceases production of fruit this Christian demonstrates a loss of faith and therefore has lost faith and salvation. In other words he has returned God’s free gift. This can be demonstrated in another of Christ’s teachings.
John 15:5-6
5 "I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me, and I in him, he bears much fruit; for apart from Me you can do nothing. 6 "If anyone does not abide in Me, he is thrown away as a branch, and dries up; and they gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. NAS
What does abide mean? It means live in. What is the little word that precedes this teaching?
IF Again any believer can choose to stop living in Christ the consequences of which is his branch is cut off and cast into the fire.
OSAS teaches you loose self-determination and the ability to make choices. This is a concept not found in Scripture. Troy Perry, Mel White, and many other men and women are prime examples of this very situation. These men have walked away from God’s pure truth in order to follow a sensuous life.
Mark 7:20-23
20 And He was saying, "That which proceeds out of the man, that is what defiles the man. 21 "For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed the evil thoughts, fornications, thefts, murders, adulteries, 22 deeds of coveting and wickedness, as well as deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride and foolishness. 23 "All these evil things proceed from within and defile the man." NAS
Galatians 5:19-21
19 Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, 21 envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you just as I have forewarned you that those who practice such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. NAS
Ephesians 4:17-24
17 This I say therefore, and affirm together with the Lord, that you walk no longer just as the Gentiles also walk, in the futility of their mind, 18 being darkened in their understanding, excluded from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardness of their heart; 19 and they, having become callous, have given themselves over to sensuality, for the practice of every kind of impurity with greediness. 20 But you did not learn Christ in this way, 21 if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught in Him, just as truth is in Jesus, 22 that, in reference to your former manner of life, you lay aside the old self, which is being corrupted in accordance with the lusts of deceit, 23 and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind, 24 and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.
NAS
The usual response from OSAS proponents is “a real Christian” will not do this. This is simply another attempt to ignore the reality of being human. We can quench the Holy Spirit by our choices and when a Christian continues to quench the Holy Spirit while pursuing a sensuous life they have abandoned their faith, thrown out their faith, and voided the free gift of God. Is this statement mere conjecture?
Matthew 24:13 "But the one who endures to the end, he shall be saved. NAS
Christians who cease abiding in Christ do not endure to the end and according to Jesus Christ they will
not inherit the Kingdom of God. In other words they have by their own choice thrown away (lost) their salvation. No one has snatched them from the hand of Christ; they simply walked away from Him.
