ArchivedQuestions about the Bible
God will be the judge. God judges people's hearts. So if the people from the OT did the will of God, then they will be saved. Man has become more sinful. Before Jesus came, Isreal was not doing the will of God, there was self-righteousness, hypocracy, etc. Jesus came to bring the absolute truth. Things have changed, we no longer give sacrifices. Do Musims give sacrifices? The Muslims I know believe you are saved if you do more good works than bad works, but you cannot earn your way to heaven. Us humans are sinners and our good works are like filthy rags to God. In other words, we are not saved by good works, but we are saved UNTO good works. Our good works will count for all eternity, but it does not save us. We are saved by the grace of God, lest any man should boast. The word trinity is not in the bible, but the concept of the trinity is. The bible teaches that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are equally distinct. You have to realize that Jesus portrays Godly characters in the flesh, ONLY because the Father gives Him authority. That is why He is called the Son of God. In Hebrews 1:8, you see the Father calling the Son(Jesus) God. When the Father calls Jesus God, He is not saying that Jesus is the God of the Father for Jesus said, "the Father is greater than I." Rather, the Father is giving Jesus authority over us. It is like saying if you are a King, but you give your son(the prince) authority to rule over your subjects. And no one can come to see you unless they go through your son first. That is the relationship the Father has with the Son. Because of the Holy Spirit, we can see the truth. If there was no Holy Spirit, all "Christians" would be like the Pharisees. We would be hypocrites and self-righteous trying to earn our way into heaven. The Holy Spirit let's us know the will of God and convicts us. The Holy Spirit is not a god, but it is part of God's nature. Our sins are ONLY forgiven once we accept Jesus as our Lord and Saviour. Jesus said, "whosoever will, let Him come." But what most people don't see is that accepting Jesus as your Lord and Saviour is not a spectator sport. Yes, once you accept Him you are saved, BUT within accepting Jesus means you have to be Born Again. Jesus said no one will enter the Kingdom of God unless they are Born Again. This means getting rid of the old you and becoming more like Christ. We might still be sinners, but we no longer sin willingly. Before I was Born Again, i used to sin without conviction. I used to think the things I did were "normal." When you are Born Again, you see the truth, meaning, the things that you are doing are sins and you realize that it has to be stopped. When you play basketball, you try to make the basket, but you know you will mess up and miss at times, but you still strive to make it. That is being a Christian. You try hard to be perfect like Jesus, eventhough you know you will mess up. Now when you start missing shots on purpose, you know something is wrong. There is a big difference between sinning on purpose continually without care or conviction and sinning unwillingly with a repentant heart. So if a person REALLY wants to be saved, they must be Born Again and believe Jesus died for their sins then resurrected. Again, we are not saved by the good works we do, but we are saved UNTO good works. Meaning when you become a Christian your good works would count for all eternity. |
