Christian/Muslim ThreadsIslamic Perspectives of The Death & Return of JesusAssalamu alaikum brother H2O, This is certainly an acceptable explanation. But it is still a personal interpretation. I acknowledge that understanding Qur'an is not like solving a puzzle in which you move on to the next after placing a piece. Each reading, each year, each event may offer different meanings. So this interpretation is acceptable in and of itself. But, regarding return of the Messiah, brother, you still technically leave out the sahih hadiths. Dejjal and Messiah being metaphorical symbols makes sense for me. Yes indeed. A hadith says disaggreement is richness for Muslims (ummah). Brother, there's a senstivie issue I see in general. We may reject some interpretatations saying they are not in line with spirit of Islam. But then what is or what makes the spirit of Islam. Can we understand Qur'an fully by ourselves? Saying so, I feel is, somewhat like claiming the authority of Prophet s.a.w. in that it was him who taught ashab how to understand Qur'an. If we are to take Qur'an as our only source we should have the access and capacity of the Prophet to the divine knowledge too. Certainly, hadiths do not have the authority of the Qur'an verses, but we dont have the authority of the Prophet s.a.w. to understand Qur'an too. So we have to find a way in between. I believe what Muslims did in history is just that. All these Islamic law disciplines. These are, I believe, inevitable outcomes of muslims' sincere will to obey and worship God the way Prophet s.a.w. did, as he was marked by God as a guide and example to the muslims. So brother, if we can speak of spirit of Islam, that depends on one divine source: Qur'an, but three respective ilm levels to understand it: hadiths, ijma-i ummah and qiyas-i ulema. Regards, Unite |
