Science, Creation & EvolutionMorality and evolutionismWell, you might have a point on the first account, but in my defense I'd like to say this: You said: Older individuals are more likely to linger at the rear of a troop of fleeing animals than younger ones because they are inherently slower. But the behaviour that has been witnessed was of 'OLD MALES'. Slow behaviour should occur in pregnant females, old females, males/females that were born with malfunctions... The only one that is FIGHTING (in evolutionary terms sacrificing his genes for the greater good, namely: passing one his genes in the pregnant females and young apes in the group) is the OLD MALE. When we realise we are just vessels for our genes (as is the general idea in evolutionary pschology - one of the mayor forms of psychology according to a friend that studies psychology) then it is very likely that an old male will sacrifice his life. Remember the death of Bruce Willis in 'Armageddon'? The oldest males will likely have the most offspring within the population. The 'dominant male' is most likely to sacrifise himself. (Remember the 'captain that is supposed to go down with the ship'? Or 'Women and children first'? Both refer directly to the evolutionary ideals of of keeping the offspring alive and males that sacrifise themselves for the greater good) |
