Science, Creation & EvolutionMorality and evolutionismImagination, and visualization of a posible outcome are functionally the same thing. Just a diferent application. Depends on how one defines value. But we are no different from an animal, save for our intelligence. An elephant, I am not sure is capable of placing their thoughts on a sheet of canvas... Not sure they can make the association...
I am not aware of an advantage of another non-human appreciating beauty(though, we have no way to tell) However it could have stemmed from a a combination of abstract thinking, and mate selection(they do reject "ugliness" in their mates. peacock female for example will choose the male with the best tail display. And here I was thinking you would be able to get the joke... WHy do people express their individuality? They do it in order to attract a mate. WHen a teenage guy spikes his hair, and wears a tight t-shirt, he is atempting ti display something that he thinks the opposite sex(or same sex as the case may be) will find attractive. We like to make ourselves stand out, because by standing out we gain the attention of potential mates. Languages are easily found in animals. Dolphins. I am nnot aware of a living animal writing down and solving an equation, but an animal CAN make less/more judgements. For example in territorial fights between troupes of chimps, they do alter their behavior based on number of individuals(ie. back down from a larger group) The ability of other animsla to perform math is limited by their native intelligence. Parrots for example, can comprehend simple numbering, but to my knowledge cannot perform simple equations. A DOlphin can be taught how to perform simple + or - maths. Remember, it took thousands of years to figure out the pythagorean theorum. The ability to remember the past is simpley an ability to think in abstract. It would have been a simple matter to gets some crushed berries, and to paint something on a wall. Again however' one's ability to remember is a function of intelligence, and no living mammal is capable of it, save for possibly cetaceans, though we have no way of knowing that for sure, and it isnt as if they have thumbs to write with. Earlier hominids for example, did progress that way, H. Neanderthalis and H. Ergaster were smart enough to do so. Written memoirs didnt show up in any animal until the Phoenecians |
